| CJ 1400 | | Corrections in America | | Prerequisite: CJ 1100. The correctional system in the United States has an interesting and varied evolution. Beginning with an historical overview of this component of the America criminal justice system, the learner will delve into the rationale for punishment and the administration and operational aspects of prison and jail functions at the local, state and federal levels. Issues related to probation, parole, community corrections, and future challenges and trends in the correctional environment will also be explored. 3 credits. (3 plus 0)
