Planned giving, sometimes referred to as gift planning, may be defined as a method of supporting non-profits and charities that enables philanthropic individuals or donors to make larger gifts than they could make from their income. While some planned gifts provide a life-long income to the donor, others use estate and tax planning techniques to provide for charity and other heirs in ways that maximize the gift and/or minimize its impact on the donor's estate. General Questions

What is "Institutional Advancement" and how does it fit with "Alumni Relations"?

The Institutional Advancement (IA) team does just that: works to advance the mission of the university by offering Tech’s alumni and friends the opportunity to be involved. For those who want to make gifts to support the university and its students, we provide information and guidance in selecting the way that best fits their situation and interests. We meet with individuals, foundation and corporation officers, and government officials to tell the university's story. We submit contribution and grant requests as appropriate. We keep everyone updated about what's happening at the university, hold events, visit with alumni on campus and around the nation, and help people stay connected to Tech and to each other.

Our Office of Alumni Relations works as part of the IA team, as we all reach out to serve our alumni. We want you to cherish the good times at Tech and enjoy coming back to visit. We want you to know what's going on and to be part of the future developments. We want to hear your feedback and suggestions and offer you opportunities to participate in fun events. We want to facilitate your connection with fellow alumni. Alumni Relations is responsible for organizing and orchestrating alumni activities large and small, from Homecoming to the Wine Tasting to Facebook updates.
