Championship Saturday Set for Fort Wayne
FORT WAYNE, IN- This weekend, Indiana Tech will host the 2009 WHAC Volleyball Tournament and the Men’s Soccer Finals. The Warriors were granted host rights due to the finish of their respective sports. The volleyball tournament begins on Friday with Tech hosting Cornerstone at 8pm. Madonna and Aquinas will play the other match at 6pm. The championship will pit the winners of the two Friday semi-finals on Saturday at noon. The men’s soccer final will pit the host Warriors against the visiting Panthers of Davenport University on Saturday, November 14th at 2:00pm.
The 17th ranked Indiana Tech Volleyball team posted a perfect 14-0 conference record in route to the 2009 regular season title. The Warriors are led by sophomore Ashley Hamilton (Middlebury, IN / Northridge HS) who is ranked 34th and 35th nationally for total kills (444) and kills per game (3.67) respectively. Sophomore Melanie Forman (Hastings, MI / Lakewood HS) is ranked 11th and 19th nationally in total assists (1380) and assists per game (10.45) respectively. Junior Erika Stouder (Nappanee, IN / Northwood HS) is ranked 19th in hitting percentage (.368) on 358 kills.
The Indiana Tech Men’s Soccer team had a resurgent second half of the season going 8-2-1 the final eleven games of the season culminating in a second seed for the WHAC tournament. In dramatic fashion, the Warriors defeated the Golden Eagles of Cornerstone, 5-3 in a penalty kick shootout after the game had remained scoreless in two sudden death overtimes. Both finals should provide exciting entertainment and a chance for Indiana Tech to claim two championships on their own campus. Awards and conference honors will follow at the conclusion of each final.
