Miami, Fla.—The Indiana Tech volleyball team struggled at the net again and dropped their third straight match, falling in four sets to 17th-ranked Missouri Baptist (20-25, 25-23, 14-25, 22-25) to close out play at the St. Thomas Invitational in Miami, Fla.
The Warriors fall to 1-3 on the season and while the attack wasn’t at its best, the defense did tally nine blocks and 49 digs in the four sets.
The orange and black were led at the net by Christine Foest (Welland, Ontario) and Suzanne Taylor (Petersburg, Mich.) who each collected nine kills, while Stacy Nagy (Temperance, Mich.) added eight. Alexandra Roberts (New Washington, Ohio) was the top setter on Saturday with 16 assists.
Meanwhile, Taylor Kelso (Crestline, Ohio) held the back row with 18 digs and Shanice Richards (Boynton Beach, Fla.) did her part up front with four blocks.
"This was a tough tournament and we learned a lot," Head Coach Kourtney Volkmer staid. "We played some of the best teams in the country this weekend and it's a great measuring stick for where we want to be. Out team learned a lot about ourselves this weekend. I'm excited for this season and the potential our team has."
For their performance in the tournament, Kelso and Taylor each garnered All-Tournament team honors.
The Warriors return to action on Friday, Aug. 30 at 5:30 p.m. when they travel to Marion, Ind. to take part in the Taylor Tournament. Their first match is against the host Trojans.
