Ft. Wayne, IN – The 2009-2010 year was an outstanding one for Indiana Tech Athletics as eight programs competed in NAIA National Tournaments: volleyball, men’s soccer, men's cross country, men's and women's indoor track and field, men's and women's outdoor track and field, and baseball. The Warriors also had 12 All-Americans, one 2nd Team All-American, and two Honorable Mention All-Americans.
The volleyball team won the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference in the regular season and went on to win the WHAC Tournament. The team ended the season with a 34-11 record and a National Tournament Top 12 finish. Sophomore Ashley Hamilton (Middlebury, IN/Northridge HS) was an NAIA 2nd Team All-American and made the NAIA National All-Tournament Team and junior Erika Stouder (Nappanee, IN/Ancilla College) was an Honorable Mention All-American. Coach Kirsta Solberg grabbed WHAC Coach of the Year for the second year in a row.
The men’s soccer team had a terrific season, winning the WHAC Tournament after finishing second in the regular season. The Warriors ended the year with a 13-7-2 record and qualified for the final site of the National Tournament and were one of the final 16 teams in the nation, eventually losing to the national runner-up. Coach Martin Neuhoff was honored as the WHAC Coach of the Year.
The Warrior cross country team was represented by freshman Alex Stoltie (Ft. Wayne, IN/Garrett HS) at the NAIA Cross Country National Championships this past year.
The Indiana Tech track and field team had a lot of success this year in their indoor and outdoor seasons. The Warriors were well represented at Nationals in both indoor and outdoor. Seven Warriors received All-American honors on the outdoor track and field team. Junior Chris Brautzsch (Indianapolis, IN/Univ. of Louisville) earned the honor in the 110m hurdles, the women’s 4x100 team of all freshman, Adella King (Detroit, MI/Finney HS), Zalika Dixon (Brooklyn, NY/HS of Fashion Industries), Emaryne Watt (Indianapolis, IN/Perry Meridan HS), and Abigail Torian (Cadiz, KY/Trigg County HS), King also received All-American honors for the 200m, and Dina Petridis (Ft. Wayne, IN/Northrop HS) in the pole vault.
For the men’s indoor team, Brautzsch was honored again in the 60m hurdles, while senior Russell Dill (Ft. Wayne, IN/North Side HS) was honored in the 400m. Receiving the honors for the women were Preosha Graham-Coats (Ft. Wayne, IN/Paul Harding HS) in the 600m, Tiffany Aikin (Elkhart, IN/Elkhart Central) in the 60m hurdles, and Petridis in the pole vault.
The Warrior baseball team won their second consecutive WHAC Tournament this season after finishing the regular season second in the conference. The baseball team made their 8th appearance in the NAIA National Tournament and finished the season with a 34-28 record. Junior third baseman Justin Medeiros (Ft. Worth, TX/Clarendon) was named Honorable Mention All-American. Coach Kip McWilliams was named the Coach of Character.
