Fort Wayne, IN – Indiana Tech honored five individuals at the Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet on March 26.
The five honorees were:
· Basketball players Boyd Byerly and Dale Graft: Byerly and Graft, both 1953 graduates of Ossian High School and members of the Ossian basketball team that went 24-0 before losing in the regional round of the Indiana high school basketball tournament, each attended a larger university before transferring to Indiana Tech on basketball scholarships. In 1958, Byerly and Graft shared the Carmi Award presented to the most outstanding player(s) on the Indiana Tech team based leadership, scholarship, sportsmanship, value to team, attitude, and competitiveness. Both graduated in 1958, Byerly with a degree in civil engineering and Graft with a degree in mechanical engineering. Byerly is a member of the 1,000 point club at Indiana Tech with 1,274 career points.
· Soccer player Katie Mettler: Mettler, a 2000 graduate with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, was a standout on the soccer field during her years as a player. She later returned to the university as a graduate student and completed an MBA in 2007. She is now president of the Alumni Association Board of Directors.
· Staff member Chris Dickson: Dickson has earned two degrees at Indiana Tech, a bachelor’s degree in administration in 1994 and an MBA in 2001. As an undergraduate student he became involved in Warrior athletics in a variety of positions, including manager of the men’s basketball team. Since joining the university staff full-time in 1996 his roles have included sports information director and assistant athletic director. Dickson is currently associate vice president-student services.
· Athletic manager Jon Mohr: Mohr is Indiana Tech’s athletic manager, working tirelessly for more than 20 years in support of the Warriors.
