Fort Wayne, IN – The Indiana Tech athletics program added to its 2010-11 success with 12 teams being honored for academic excellence as NAIA Scholar Teams.
Among the 12 teams recognized, volleyball finished with the highest GPA at 3.56 followed closely by the men’s tennis team at 3.51. Tech’s other scholar teams were women’s tennis (3.40 GPA), women’s basketball (3.33 GPA), softball (3.29 GPA), women’s soccer (3.27 GPA), women’s golf (3.23 GPA), women’s cross country (3.14 GPA), women’s indoor track & field (3.10 GPA), women’s outdoor track & field (3.10 GPA), baseball (3.06 GPA), and men’s golf (3.06 GPA).
A record 934 teams, an increase over last year's total of 857, received the award. Over 12% of the schools receiving the award had a 3.5 or higher grade point average.
For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar Team Award, it must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average as defined by the institution. The team grade point average must include all varsity student-athletes certified as eligible.
