For Immediate Release
Fort Wayne, Ind. – As part of the new Warrior Pride program, each month the athletic department will name one male and one female athlete the Warrior of the Month. Athletes can earn recognition for their hard work on the field, excellence in the classroom, or being active in their community.
The Warrior of the Month Award winners for the month of March are Travis Barroquillo of the wrestling team and Tori Kilps of the softball team.
Travis Barroquillo, a freshman from Wolcottville, Indiana, has worked hard in the classroom to earn NAIA/NWCA All-Academic honors for having a GPA above 3.0. He became Indiana Tech’s first ever wrestling All-American in the program’s inaugural season by finishing in fourth place at the NAIA National Championships. Next year, Travis should be the pre-season No. 1 ranked wrestler at 133-lbs. due to the fact the three competitors finishing ahead of him this year were all seniors. During the season, Travis placed in the top 5 of every single tournament he competed in (six tournaments). He finished the year with a final season record of 32-14, with eight of his losses coming against NCAA Division I and II competition. He has volunteered to mentor, tutor, and participate in recreational activities for “at risk” students at Mimi Middle school in a program called “my brother’s keepers”.
Tori Kilps, a sophomore from New Berlin, Wisconsin, is a starting pitcher/first baseman on the softball team and is one of their top hitters. She excels in the classroom as an engineering student, she's a student ambassador and has volunteered at several community events, including Erin’s House, Blessings in a Backpack, and Fort4Fitness.
Congratulations to Travis and Tori!
