Fort Wayne, Ind. – As part of the new Warrior Pride program, each month the athletic department will name one male and one female athlete the Warrior of the Month. Athletes can earn recognition for their hard work on the field, excellence in the classroom, or being active in their community.
The Warrior of the Month Award winners for the month of April are Craig Schaepkens of the men’s lacrosse team and Megan Garrison of the women’s golf team.
Craig Schaepkens, a junior from Davison, Michigan, helped take his team to the CCLA Tournament semifinals this season and just missing a trip to the national playoffs. He led the team this season and ranks third in the conference with 80 points. His 42 assists were a team-high (3rd in the CCLA) and he was third on the team with 38 goals. Craig averaged 2.63 assists and 2.38 goals per game. He is an excellent student and does student teaching. He has also been involved with Perfect Paws Pet Rescue in Fort Wayne.
Megan Garrison, a junior from Burlington, Indiana, earned the award for the second time this year. She has played in five tournaments in April and finished in the top-7 in all of them. She had two 3rd place finishes and two wins. For the entire year, Garrison has won five out of 14 tournaments and never finished lower than 7th place. She is also an outstanding student and was inducted into the first class of the National College Athletic Honor Society, Chi Alpha Sigma, earlier this year. She is involved in the community, having done a speaking engagement at Adams Elementary School about college life, including academics and athletics.
