Fort Wayne, Ind. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has recently announced the 2012 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes for the spring season. Indiana Tech had 24 student-athletes recognized for their efforts.
The baseball team landed six players on the list, the second most of any school in the country behind Azusa Pacific’s seven. The student-athletes that were honored included Mitchell Burton (Brownsburg, IN/Brownsburg), Ken Jarrett (Mason, OH/Mason), Brandon Paletta (Richardson, TX/North Texas), Tyler Sailer (Hicksville, OH/Hicksville), Bryan Wachtel (Champaign, IL/Iowa), and Tyler Watts (New Haven, IN/Parkland).
Representing the softball team were Allison Belcher (St. Charles, MO/Francis Howell), Callie Busch (Jefferson, OH/Jefferson), Amber Edmundson (Portland, IN/Ancilla), Katelynn Hamilton (Jefferson, OH/Jefferson), and Andrea Sexsmith (Brownstown, MI/Woodhaven).
The men’s and women’s tennis teams each had one player receive the honor, Mark Clements (Crawfordsville, IN/North Montgomery) and Marisol Granados (Ft. Wayne, IN/Prairie Heights).
Two members of the women’s golf team earned the award, Megan Garrison (Burlington, IN/Carroll) and Kalie Sanders (Greenville, OH/Greenville) while Nick Quick (Portage, IN/Portage) of the men’s golf team also received recognition.
The track & field teams placed eight on the lists, including Daniel Haught (Ft. Wayne, IN/Homestead), Chadd Keller (Decatur, IN/Bellmont), Micky Nelson (Wheat Ridge, CO/Wheat Ridge), Tiffany Aikin (Elkhart, IN/Elkhart Central), Veronica Jersey (South Whitley, IN/ Whitko), Erica Schwering (Greensburg, IN/Greensburg), Hilary Snyder (Michigan Center, MI/Lumen Christi), and Abigail Torian (Cadiz, KY/Trigg County).
In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status to qualify for this honor.
