For Immediate Release
Fort Wayne, Ind. – As part of the new Warrior Pride program, each month the athletic department will name one male and one female athlete the Warrior of the Month. Athletes can earn recognition for their hard work on the field, excellence in the classroom, or being active in their community.
The Warrior of the Month Award winners for the month of May are Martika Armstead of the softball team and Igor Morales of the men’s track & field team.
Martika Armstead, a junior from Richmond, Indiana, earned her second straight First Team All-WHAC selection after leading the team in batting average (.383), runs (55), triples (4), setting a new school record for hits (82) in a season and was a leader on the team. She was elected the top outfielder in the conference by the coaches and was named All-Region as well.
Igor Morales, a junior from Caracas, Venezuela, transferred to Indiana Tech from Graceland University in Iowa. In his first season with the Warriors, Morales finished second at the WHAC Championships and three weeks later he won the NAIA National Championship in the pole vault with a jump of 16-9, a huge lifetime-best for himself. He became the first field event national champion in program history and with his vault, he will be jumping in meets this summer for his native country of Venezuela.
Congratulations to Martika and Igor!
