Fort Wayne, Ind. – As part of the Warrior Pride program, each month the athletic department will name one male and one female athlete the Warrior of the Month. Athletes can earn recognition for their hard work on the field, excellence in the classroom, or being active in their community.
The Warrior of the Month Award winners for the month of October are Melvin Brooks of the men’s basketball team and Juliaclare Plezbert of the softball team.
Melvin Brooks, a senior from Memphis, Tennessee, established new career-highs with 27 points and 17 rebounds to lead the men’s basketball team to a season opening win over Indiana Dabney University. He matched those numbers just a few days later in the second game of the season to, again, help the team to a victory, this time against Ohio Midwestern. Through two games, Melvin ranked seventh in the NAIA in points per game, and led the nation in total rebounds and rebounds per game.
Juliaclare Plezbert, a sophomore from St. Charles, Illinois, has excelled on the field this fall posting a .400 batting average as well as playing numerous positions from catcher to infield and outfield. She has been a “big sister” to many of the freshmen, showing them how to involve themselves in the community with activities like Blessings in a Backpack, river clean up, soup kitchen and touring alums on homecoming.
Congratulations to Melvin and Juliaclare!
