Fort Wayne, Ind. – Indiana Tech was ranked 20th through the first winter standings of the 2012-13 NAIA Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup announced by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of America (NACDA) on Thursday.
The Warriors, who had zero points after the fall season, placed three teams in the five championships so far in the winter season and vaulted up the standings totaling 232.75 points. Only five other schools have compiled more points than Indiana Tech thus far this season.
The women’s indoor track & field team finished second at the NAIA National Championships, earning Tech 90 points while the men placed third to grab 85 more. In its second season, the wrestling team came in 16th place at the national tournament to secure the Warriors 57.75 points.
Indiana Tech is one of three Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) members represented in the top-25 of the standings. Aquinas College ranks 14th with 283.5 points followed by Tech with 232.75, and Cornerstone University stands in 24th with 206.25.
Oklahoma Baptist University is at the top of the overall standings with 650 points. Olivet Nazarene University is currently second overall with 530.5 and Concordia University (Calif.) rounds out the top-3 with 474.5.
The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 12 sports -- six women’s and six men’s.
The final winter NAIA Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings will be released on Mar. 21.
