Fort Wayne, Ind. – As part of the Warrior Pride program, each month the athletic department will name one male and one female athlete the Warrior of the Month. Athletes can earn recognition for their hard work on the field, excellence in the classroom, or being active in their community.
The Warrior of the Month Award winners for the month of February are Kevin Goehring of the men’s lacrosse team and Shayla France of the women’s track & field team.
Kevin Goehring, a sophomore from Fort Wayne, played very well against No. 1 University of St. Thomas in the team’s second game of the season with three groundballs and solid defensive play, helping hold the defending national champions to just one second half goal. In addition to his play on the field, Goehring also coaches middle school lacrosse during the summers and is an outstanding student in the classroom.
Shayla France, a sophomore from Harrison Township, Michigan, was a national champion in the 60-meter hurdles and three-event All-American at the 2013 NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships. In addition to her title in the 60 hurdles, she finished fifth in the 200-meter dash and sixth in the 60-meter dash. At the WHAC championships a couple weeks earlier, Shayla also claimed the conference championship in the 60 hurdles. Off the track, she excels academically and is an active member of FCA here on campus.
Congratulations to Kevin and Shayla!
