Allentown, Pa. – The Indiana Tech bowling teams wrapped up the 2012 portion of their schedule last week at the Keystone Quaker Classic and the Lehigh Valley Classic in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The Warrior women earned two top-10 finishes while the men placed 20th and 22nd.
Both tournaments featured many of the nation’s top programs including Robert Morris University-Illinois, who is the No. 1 men’s team and No. 4 women’s team. The Robert Morris men took home the top spot in both events while the women nabbed a first and second place finish.
At the Keystone Quaker Classic on Dec. 27-28, the Warrior women placed eighth out of the 15 team field. Sophomore Brooke Copenhaver (Auburn, IN/DeKalb) finished 25th to pace the team with 905 pins and a 181.0 average over five games. Freshman Rachel Atkins (Columbia City, IN/Columbia City) was close behind in 31st with 887 pins and a 177.4 average.
On the men’s side, Tony Henry (Ft. Wayne, IN/Bishop Dwenger) was the lone Warrior to land in the top-50 out of the 225 competitors. Henry’s 954 pins earned him a 45th place finish and he averaged a 190.8 over five games.
Tech was right back in action at the Lehigh Valley Classic on Dec. 29-30 where the women had another solid performance, finishing in 10th place. Senior Alicia Bowman (Indianapolis, IN/Warren Central) placed 10th overall after collecting 937 pins while carrying a 187.4 average. Freshman Emalee Wiser (Ft. Wayne, IN/Northrop) followed in 39th with 852 pins and a 170.4 average.
Once again, it was the senior standout Tony Henry who led the men’s squad. Henry racked up 996 pins to place 29th overall with a 199.2 average. Sophomore Travis Valentine (Leslie, MI/Mason) placed just outside the top-50 in 55th with 943 pins and a 188.6 average.
The Warriors return to action on Saturday, Jan. 5 when they host the third WHAC Jamboree of the season at Pro Bowl West. The men’s team currently sits in third place in the conference standings while the women are in second.
