South Bend, Ind. – The Indiana Tech bowling teams returned to action over the weekend at one of the largest tournaments of the season, the Blue and Gold Classic held at Chippewa Bowl in South Bend, Indiana. The Warrior women finished 2nd in the 24 team field, and first among the WHAC teams competing, while the men’s team placed 50th out of 64.
McKendree University claimed the women’s championship and Lindenwood University narrowly defeated William Penn University to capture the men’s top spot.
Pacing the Warriors was sophomore Brooke Copenhaver (Auburn, IN/DeKalb), who finished in second place out of 172 bowlers. Over nine games, Copenhaver collected 1734 pins and averaged a 192.7 with a high-score of 230. Freshman Rachel Atkins (Columbia City, IN/Columbia City) also placed in the top-50. Atkins came in 26th with 1574 pins and averaged a 174.9 per game.
Devin Arick (Columbia City, IN/Columbia City) and Tony Henry (Ft. Wayne, IN/Bishop Dwenger) were the top two performers for the Tech men in a tournament field that featured more than 500 bowlers. Arick compiled 1675 pins over nine games to land in 120th place. The sophomore averaged a 186.1 and had a high-score of 243. In eight games, Henry picked up 1535 pins with a 191.9 averaged and had one of the weekend’s highest singles game scores of 278.
The Warriors are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 9 at the WHAC Championships hosted by Davenport University at Fairlanes Bowl in Grandville, Michigan.
