Warriors Eyeing WHAC Championship

Fort Wayne, Ind. – After concluding the inaugural regular season of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference competition, the Indiana Tech bowling teams are preparing to take part in the WHAC Championships on Saturday, Feb. 9 at Fairlanes Bowl in Grandville, Michigan.

Both Tech teams have had outstanding seasons, finishing in second place in the league standings. The University of Northwestern Ohio won the men’s regular season title while Davenport University claimed the women’s, sweeping all four WHAC Jamborees.

In four jamborees, the Warrior men had one first place finish, two second places, and one third. Tech is led by the senior duo of Jaiden Metzger (Ft. Wayne, IN/Snider) and Tony Henry (Ft. Wayne, IN/Bishop Dwenger), who finished 1-2 in the individual standings with a 204.81 and 204.56 average respectively. Additionally, Metzger and Henry combined to win three of the four Jamboree individual titles.

The Warriors have three other bowlers ranked in the top-15 of the conference. Sophomore Devin Arick (Columbia City, IN/Columbia City) is ninth with a 186.94 average in 16 games this season. Quinton Burnett (Flint, MI/Carman-Ainsworth) has had a tremendous freshman campaign and is 13th with a 179.69. Sophomore Travis Valentine (Leslie, MI/Mason) rounds out the top-15 with a 178.80.

On the women’s side, the Warriors took second place in all four jamborees this season. Mary Woehnker (Kendallville, IN/East Noble) has been Indiana Tech’s top performer through conference play with a 188.62 average, which was good enough for third in the individual rankings. Sophomore Jenna Shaffer (Sidney, OH/Sidney), who was the individual champion at WHAC Jamboree 4, carried a 178.25 average through league play.

Emalee Wiser (Ft. Wayne, IN/Northrop), Alicia Bowman (Indianapolis, IN/Warren Central), and Brooke Copenhaver (Auburn, IN/DeKalb) have also had solid seasons and rank in the top-12 of the conference. Wiser has a 177.87 average, Bowman a 175.47, and Copenhaver a 171.83.

Action gets underway at 8:15 a.m. with 12 baker games of qualifying followed by match games beginning at 11 a.m.
