Indianapolis, Ind. – The Indiana Tech bowling teams competed at the 2013 Backhaul Direct Hoosier Classic over the weekend – the largest USBC collegiate event of the season.
The Warrior men finished 37th out of 77 teams while the women’s squad placed 37th out of 55 teams.
The Morehead State men captured the men’s title and the Robert Morris-Illinois women claimed the women’s championship.
Sophomore Travis Valentine was the top performer on the men’s side for the Warriors finishing in 169th place overall in a field of more than 450 bowlers. Valentine picked up 1,495 pins over eight games for a 186.88 average.
Seniors Jaiden Metzger and Tony Henry followed close behind in 178th and 179th. Metzger, the WHAC Men’s Bowler of the Year, finished with 1,476 total pins for a 184.5 average and Henry had 1,475 for a 184.38 average.
The women’s team was led by senior Alicia Bowman, who placed 195th out of 371 bowlers. Bowman totaled 1,196 pins in seven games for a 170.86 average.
Freshman Samantha Pasch was 215th with 1,114 for a 159.14 average and sophomore Jenna Shaffer was 225th with 1,070 for a 152.86 average.
With the regular season completed, the Warriors will look forward to the upcoming USBC Sectional Qualifiers. Teams headed to the sectional events will be announced later this week. The top four men’s teams and top four women’s teams from each sectional will advance to the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships in Lincoln, Nebraska on Apr. 18-20.
