Las Vegas, Nev. – The Indiana Tech bowling teams competed at the Intercollegiate Team Championships sectional qualifier at Texas Star Lanes in Las Vegas, Nevada over the weekend. The Warrior men finished in 17th place and the women came in 13th.
The top-4 teams on each side advanced from each of the four sectional qualifiers. Taking home the top spot on the men’s side in Las Vegas was West Texas A&M while Midland, Fresno State, and Mount Mercy also advanced. Wichita State claimed first place in the women’s division, and moving on with them were Maryland-Eastern Shore, Stephen F. Austin State, and Midland.
The Tech men’s team stood in seventh place after the first 16 games, but dropped to 13th by the end of the first day. After the 64 completed games, the Warriors were in 17th with 11,028.
On the women’s side, the Lady Warriors were in 11th place following the first 32 games, but battled back and climbed to ninth after 48 games. However, they would finish the event in 13th with a total of 10,137.
The field was also set for the 2013 xbowling Intercollegiate Singles Championships. All participants bowled six games with the top four women at each of the four sectional sites advancing. The number of men’s advancers was based on entries in each sectional.
Two Warrior women landed in the top-20 – Mary Woehnker and Jenna Shaffer. Woehnker finished in 14th place with 1121 total pins and a high-game of 200 while Shaffer placed 20th with 1094 and a high-game of 212.
Senior Tony Henry came within 63 pins of qualifying for the men’s singles championship. Henry finished in eighth place with 1245 and high-game of 236.
The Warriors will wrap up their season at the NAIA Invitational Tournament in Indianapolis on Mar. 22-24.
