Copenhaver Wins Boliermaker Classic, @INTechBowling Women Place Fifth, Men 13th

MEN | WOMEN | LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech bowling teams competed at the 2013 Boilermaker Classic hosted by Purdue University and presented by Columbia 300 over the weekend. Brooke Copenhaver stole the show for the Warriors as she won the 158-bowler women’s tournament for her first individual title of the 2013-14 season.

The men’s varsity team finished with 7,186 pins, placing 13th in the 21-team varsity tournament while the reserve squad placed 14th in the junior varsity tournament with 6,779 pins.

Jacob Camacho led the way for the Warriors as he tallied 1,014 pins, averaging 202.80 per game to finish 20th, one pin shy of 19th. Tyler Krepp paced the reserve squad and was the second best finish for Tech, just missing a top-50 finish, tallying 920 pins and averaging 184 pins per game to finish 54th, seven pins shy of 50th place.

Bryce Lemming tallied 897 pins for a 62nd place finish for the reserve squad, just ahead of Chris Roti who finshed 72nd with 878 pins, averaging 175.6 per game.

Robert Morris (Ill.) won the 21-team, 264-bowler tournament with a total pinfall of 8,333, 303 pins better than second-place Lindenwood, who was led by individual winner Matt Pearson (1,150 pins, 230 avg.). Morehead State finished third with 8,020 pins while McKendree (7,898), CCSJ (7,850) and Mount Mercy (7,850) rounded out the top five.

On the women’s side, the Warriors varsity squad finished fifth in the varsity group and sixth in the junior varsity bracket. The Orange and Black’s varsity squad tallied 7,243 pins with the reserve squad collecting 6,483.

Copenhaver was the story for the Warriors as she tallied 1,086 pins, 86 more than the second-place finisher, Courtney Johnston (RMU), averaging 217.2 pins per game. Mary Woehnker finished in 14th with an average of 182.6, collecting 913 total pins while Katie Weaver paced the reserve squad with a 22nd place finish and a total of 877 pins for a 175.4 average.

Also finishing in the top-25 for Tech was Christine George who knocked down 872 total pins for a five-game average of 174.4 for the reserve squad.

Lindenwood won the 12-team varsity event with 7,627 total pins, besting Robert Morris (Ill.) who tallied 7,588 in the two-day event. CCSJ collected 7,390 pins for a third-place finish while Mount Mercy (7,260) and Indiana Tech (7,243) rounded out the top five.

The Warrior bowlers will be back in action on Nov. 9-10 when they travel to Kettering, Ohio to take part in the Raider Classic hosted by Wright State.
