Indianapolis, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men’s and women’s bowling teams turned in outstanding performances to wrap up their regular season at the Backhaul Direct Hoosier Classic over the weekend. In the largest USBC collegiate event of the season, the Warriors faced some of their toughest competition yet as the men’s team finished in 18th place out of the 77 team field while the women placed 28th of 50.
Leading the Warrior men were junior Tony Henry (Ft. Wayne, IN/Bishop Dwenger) and freshman Travis Valentine (Leslie, MI/Mason). Henry earned his first top 10 finish of the season, placing 9th after collecting 1848 total pins. He averaged a 205.3 over nine games, 15 pins above his season-average. Valentine was close behind averaging over a 200 per game, also 15 pins above his season-average, and totaling 1802 pins to finish in 17th. There were 537 bowlers competing in the tournament.
Freshmen Brooke Copenhaver (Auburn, IN/DeKalb) and Chelsea Naylor (Grandville, MI/Grandville) paced the Lady Warriors. Copenhaver continues to build upon her terrific freshman season, leading the women for the third straight tournament. She landed just outside the top 50 in 52nd place after compiling 1609 pins. She averaged 13 pins better than her season-average with a 178.8 over nine games. Naylor followed in 66th place with a total of 1567 while carrying a 174.1 average. A total of 330 competitors were in the field.
The Warriors move on into postseason play and await their destination for the USBC Sectional Qualifiers set for March 10-11. The announcement will be made on Wednesday, Feb. 22.
