South Bend, Ind. – Indiana Tech men’s cross country team placed second overall at the Bethel Invitational in South Bend, Indiana on Friday. The team beat 17th-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University, and St. Xavier University, who have been receiving votes. Only the Saints of Aquinas College, who finished in first, could stop the Warriors.
Freshman Marcus Hobbs (Nineveh, IN/Indian Creek) would finish first for the Warriors with a lifetime-best 8k time of 25:33, placing third overall. Next would be junior Aaron Belcher (Mooresville, IN/Mooresville), finishing 9th overall in a time of 25:52.
Rounding up scoring would be senior Matt Kimbrell (Muncie, IN/Muncie Southside), and freshmen Zack Johnson (Mishawaka, IN/Penn), Brenden Zoltek (Columbia City, IN/Columbia City), Paul Watts (Granger, IN/Penn), and Tanner Wall (Fremont, IN/Fremont).
On the women's side, the team would place fourth overall behind Aquinas, Indiana Wesleyan, and St. Xavier.
First to finish for the Lady Warriors was sophomore Cherie Gaines (Farmington Hills, MI/North Farmington) in a lifetime-best of 19:17, placing 12th overall. Second was freshman Brenna Conger (Pekin, IA/Pekin) finishing 15th overall in a time of 19:25.
Additional scoring for the Lady Warriors was junior Becca Lamb (North Ridgeville, OH/North Ridgeville), junior Ashlee Satterfield (Marengo, IN/Crawford County), senior Aubree Reichel (Alexandria, VA/Wiesbaden), junior Tabitha Vermillion (Marion, IN/Marion), and Emily Streahle (Warminster, PA/William Tennant).
Indiana Tech cross country has their last meet before the conference championships on Oct. 20 at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge hosted by Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
