Three Warriors Land on WHAC All-Conference Teams

Grand Rapids, Mich. – The Indiana Tech cross country teams saw three runners earn WHAC All-Conference honors at the 2012 conference championship meet on Saturday.

Aaron Belcher (Mooresville, IN/Mooresville) landed on the First Team All-WHAC while Brenna Conger (Packwood, IA/Pekin) and Cherie Gaines (Farmington Hills, MI/Farmington Hills) earned Honorable Mention All-WHAC for the women.

Belcher followed up a great sophomore season with an even more impressive junior campaign. He ran a career personal-best 25:27 at the WHAC Championship meet to finish in second place overall, just six seconds behind the winner. With his finish, Belcher booked his second straight trip to the NAIA Men’s Cross Country National Championships at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site in Vancouver, Washington on Nov. 17.

On the women’s side, Conger and Gaines both finished in the between 8th-14th place to land on the Honorable Mention Team. Conger, a freshman from Packwood, Iowa, was the top performer for the Warriors at the conference championship, turning in a personal-best 19:03 to finish in 11th place. Gaines was close behind in 13th with a 19:19 to close out a terrific sophomore season.

Aaron Belcher and Ashlee Satterfield (Marengo, IN/) were named to the Champions of Character Team for best representing the five core values of the NAIA’s Champions of Character initiative – integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.

The Warriors had three student-athletes earn a spot on the All-Academic Team for their excellence in the classroom. Aaron Belcher and senior Matt Kimbrell (Muncie, IN/Muncie Southside) were recognized for the men’s team and Aubree Reichel (Puyallup, WA/Wiesbaden) and Ashlee Satterfield for the women. To qualify, an athlete must achieve a 3.25 or better GPA and be a junior or above in academic standing.
