Vancouver, Wash. – Aaron Belcher (Mooresville, IN/Mooresville), Cherie Gaines (Farmington Hills, MI/Farmington Hills North), and Brenna Conger (Packwood, IA/Pekin) represented the Indiana Tech cross country programs well at the 2012 NAIA Men’s and Women’s Cross Country National Championships held on Saturday at the Fort Vancouver National Historic Site.
Belcher, who was making his second straight trip to the national championship, capped off his junior campaign by running a 26:11 in very poor weather and course conditions to place 104th out of 309 participants.
The University of Saint Francis (Ill.) captured the men’s team title while John Gilbertson from The Master’s College (Calif.) finished first overall to win the individual championship in a time of 23:56.
Sophomore Cherie Gaines and freshman Brenna Conger were making their first appearance at the national championship and finished in 101st and 119th, respectively, in a field of 320 competitors.
Gaines finished the 5k race in a time of 19:31 and Conger crossed the line in 19:40.
The University of British Columbia won the women’s title and the College of Idaho’s Hillary Holt was the individual champion, completing the race in a time 17:00.
The Warriors will now shift gears and look toward the upcoming indoor track season beginning with the Grand Valley State University Laker Early Bird in Allendale, Michigan on Nov. 30.
