Fort Wayne, Ind. – Josh Wolfe has been promoted to the position of head men’s and women’s cross country coach at Indiana Tech effective July 1, 2013, announced by Director of Athletics Martin Neuhoff. Wolfe has served the last three seasons as an assistant coach for the cross country teams, as well as the national champion track & field squads.
"We're excited to have Coach Wolfe as the head men's and women's cross country coach," said Neuhoff. "While under Coach Edgar as an assistant, he gained valuable knowledge of how to run a good program. We're looking for big things from him."
During his three seasons as an assistant with the cross country teams, Wolfe saw nine athletes qualify for the NAIA National Championships. He helped guide the women’s team back into the national rankings for the first time since 2008 in his first year at Tech as the team would finish as the conference runner-up. The men’s team also started to gain national recognition this past season receiving votes in the coaches’ poll after Wolfe had brought in a very talented and deep roster.
“My new, expanded role with the cross country and track programs shows Indiana Tech's commitment to keeping our program atop the NAIA ranks for years to come,” said Wolfe. “I look forward to establishing our cross country team as a national caliber group as soon as this fall, and intend on doing so with upstanding student-athletes. This is a big step for our distance athletes.”
In addition to the nine national qualifiers, Wolfe has also coached six All-Conference runners, 14 Academic All-Conference student-athletes, and 10 NAIA Scholar-Athletes on the cross country side. However, his athletes have also had success on the track, helping the Warriors win their national titles this spring. Among those that qualified for the outdoor championships this past year were two athletes in 800 meter run and the men’s 4x800 meter relay team, who earned All-American honors with a fourth place finish.
Prior to his arrival at Tech, Wolfe interned a full season with the Anderson University cross country teams. He has also coached previously at Muncie Southside High School for four seasons, working with sprints, mid-distance, and cross country, and spent two years coaching the distance runners at Manchester High School.
Wolfe is USATF level 1 certified and recently completed his master’s in Sport Administration from Ball State University. While a graduate assistant at BSU, he became a published author in the Indiana Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance peer-reviewed journal for his research on youth physical recreation. He also obtained a bachelor’s degree in Business from Manchester College in 2007.
As an athlete, Wolfe was an All-Conference runner at NCAA Division-III Manchester and a three-time All-State cross country runner in the one-class Indiana system at DeKalb High School.
