Belcher Named to Capital One Academic All-America Team

Capital One Academic All-America Team Official Release

Fort Wayne, Ind. – Junior Aaron Belcher has been named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America College Division Third Team for cross country/track and field, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The Capital One College Division Academic All-America men’s and women’s cross country/track and field teams are comprised of student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions.

In addition to his Academic All-America selection, Belcher, an accounting major, was honored as an NAIA Scholar-Athlete in both cross country and track while also receiving WHAC All-Academic recognition following the cross country season, as well as both the indoor and outdoor track seasons.

On top of his academic accomplishments, Belcher qualified for his second straight NAIA Men’s Cross Country National Championship this past season after finishing in second place overall at the WHAC Championship in a career-best time of 25:27. His finish in the conference championship earned him a spot on the All-WHAC First Team.

Belcher also excelled on the track earning Second Team All-Conference honors with a second place finish in the 5000 meter run during the WHAC Indoor Championships, helping the Warrior men capture their first conference championship.

Belcher was one of three WHAC student-athletes represented on the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America College Division men’s and women’s cross country/track and field teams.


About the Academic All-America Program

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Since the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 19,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
