MENS|WOMENS|NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. -- The Indiana Tech cross country opened their season at the Manchester University Hokum Karem on Saturday afternoon. The Hokum Karem is a relay-style race that is run over a mile-long course with an exchange zone for the two-person teams to "hand off."
The Warrior women were led by juniors Laura Condron (London, UK/Iowa Central CC) and Cherie Gaines (Farmington Hills, MI/Farmington Hills North) who placed third overall with a total time of 35 minutes and 43 seconds over the six miles. Only three seconds behind, the team of senior Becca Lamb (North Ridgeville, OH/North Ridgeville) and sophomore Brenna Conger (Packwood, IA/Pekin) finished in fourth while sophomore Emily Streahle (Warminster, PA/William Tennant) and senior Ashlee Satterfield (Marengo, IN/Crawford County) rounded out the scoring for the Warriors.
The women finished in second place with 17 points, one place better than hosts Manchester University, who are expected to defend their Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference title, and one place behind Division I IPFW.
On the men's side, sophomores Matt Adair (Fort Wayne, IN/Concordia Lutheran) and Drew Mueller (St. Louis, MO/ McCluer North) were the runners-up with a total time of 40:12 over eight miles. Freshmen Kyle Gater (Fort Wayne, IN/Carroll) and Nate Kimble (Dewitt, MI/Dewitt) finished in seventh in 41:38 and sophomores Tanner Wall (Fremont, IN/Fremont) and Josh D'Haene (Dewitt, MI/Dewitt) rounded out the scoring for the men.
The team finished in second ahead of Division I IPFW and behind Manchester.
The Warriors travel to Olivet Nazarene University for the Midwest Classic on Sept. 6.
