FORT WAYNE, Ind.--Indiana Tech Head Cross Country Coach Josh Wolfe is proud to announce the signing of Evan Harney (Columbia City, IN/Columbia City). Evan is the first college commitment for the sport of cross country in the state of Indiana this school year. He will run cross country, indoor and outdoor track for the Warriors.
Harney posted impressive times during the beginning stages of this cross country season before being shut down due to injury. Harney ran a 16:06 five-kilometer on September 7th at the Marion Invitational and then followed that with a 15:50 five-kilometer the next weekend at the Tippy Invite, a personal best. His PR ranks second all-time for an incoming freshman at Indiana Tech. Harney has also ran 4:35 (1600) and 10:24 (3200) on the track.
Wolfe on Harney, “Evan will anchor our recruiting class going into next year. To have him sign so early has also helped us with recruiting another distance runner for next year. He is a high-character kid who fits in with our team chemistry and future goals, which makes it a great signing for us. He will add depth and insurance to an already young, nationally-ranked team. This also bolsters our reputation as we continue to look for the best talent that the area has to offer. Evan would have no doubt had a great postseason. However, now that he’s had a rest period we’ll continue to encourage him to have a sound winter that will allow him to continue his development through track in the spring. We couldn’t be more excited with what Evan is bringing to our team. We expect to see him contribute right away as a freshman.”
