WALKERTON, Ind. -- Indiana Tech Head Cross Country Coach Josh Wolfe is proud to announce the signing of Lucas Runyan (Walkerton, Ind./John Glenn) to next year’s team. Runyan will run both cross country and track for the Warriors. He is the second distance runner to sign a letter of intent for the 2014-15 season, joining Columbia City, Ind. native, Evan Harney.
Runyan boasts personal bests of 16:10 (5k), 4:29 (1600), 2:01 (800), and 52 seconds (400). Runyan signed his letter of intent while watching the Warriors capture a second place finish at the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletics Conference Championships on Saturday.
Coach Wolfe on Runyan, “He was an immediate fit with our guys. I am one of those coaches who preaches ‘fit,’ as in those who fit in with the group are more likely to stay for four years and work toward a common goal. That is Luke, a great fit and a hard worker. He is the type of kid who asks for additional workouts to get better. He wants to jump in with our great group that we have coming back next year and see where it takes him. His competitiveness and open-minded personality will allow him to gradually move into a high-end role for us. He has excellent speed and will be a tremendous asset for us on the track, filling out the relays and hopefully qualifying for nationals as an individual in another event. We already have a great rapport and I’m excited to see what he can accomplish while at Tech.”
