Fort Wayne, IN – Indiana Tech Men's and Women's Cross Country kicked off their 2010 season with a pair of victories at the IPFW Invitation.
The Warrior Men were lead by John Wainwright (Wolcottville, IN / Lakeland) who took 1st in the small school division and 10th overall in 25:07, which is a lifetime best for the senior. Wainwright was followed by junior Matt Kimbrell (Muncie, IN / Southside) in 25:38, and senior Derek Holst (Columbia City, IN / Whitko) 25:47, giving Indiana Tech the top three finishers in the small school division.
Rounding out the top 6 for Indiana Tech were sophomore Cody White (Decatur, IN / Heritage) 27:05, junior Micky Nelson (Wheat Ridge, CO / Wheat Ridge) 27:06, and freshman Aaron Belcher (Moorsville, IN / Moorsville) 27:10. The men combined for 19 points, with Grace (50), and Saint Francis (64) rounding out the field.
Indiana Tech’s women were equally as impressive in their season Debut. The 1st place Warriors were lead by Senior Mika Davis (Moduc, IN / Union) in 19:25, besting her personal best by 13 seconds. She was followed closely by freshman Becca Lamb (Ridgeville, OH / North Ridgeville) in 19:48 and senior Kara Van Horn (Huntington, IN / Huntington North) in 20:00. Junior Veronica Jersey (South Whitley, IN / Whitko) came through as the 4th women in 20:24.
The Warriors packed up their 5th through 8th runners with junior Hilary Snyder (Michigan Center, MI / Lumen Christi) 21:08, sophomore Preosha Graham-Coats (Fort Wayne, IN / Harding) 21:14, senior Alyssa Webb (Indianapolis, IN / Lawrence Central) 21:17, and sophomore Domi Elizondo (Indianapolis, IN / Pike) 21:39. The women took home the White division with a nearly perfect score of 17.
The coaching staff was very pleased with great early season results and is looking forward to the team building on this performance. The team is returning to form and looks to have taken the first steps to put a challenging 2009 season behind them.
The Warriors will be right back in action with the Indiana Intercollegiate meet Friday September 17th. The meet will be held on the campus of Purdue University and will begin at 3:30 pm. The meet will feature nearly every college from the state of Indiana.
