Fort Wayne, Ind. – Former Indiana Tech All-Conference pitcher Brandon Alger (Leo, IN/Leo) earned his first professional victory as the Eugene Emeralds defeated the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 6-1 on Tuesday, June 26.
Alger allowed just one unearned run on two hits while striking out two in three solid innings of relief.
Alger has been impressive so far with the Emeralds, appearing in three games, including one start, and has yet to surrender an earned run. In eight innings pitched, the left-hander has issued zero walks while fanning six batters, and opponents are hitting only .172 against him.
The Eugene Emeralds are the short-season Class A affiliate of the San Diego Padres. Alger became the third player drafted out of Indiana Tech when the Padres selected him in the 26th round of the 2012 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft earlier this month.
