Berea, Ky. – The Indiana Tech baseball team won its first two games of the season on Saturday, defeating Spring Arbor University 7-6 before upending Berea College 20-7.

The Warriors trailed Spring Arbor 3-2 after two innings of play, but an RBI single by Jacob Dunnichay in the bottom of the third tied things up.

The Cougars responded the very next inning, taking advantage of a Tech error to score three unearned runs. The Warriors fought back though and plated four runs in the bottom half of the frame, capped off with a Bryan Brudi RBI base hit to put Tech in front 7-6.

Curtis Wise, who came on in relief of starter Kyle Nolen in the fourth, was dominant over the final 3.1 innings allowing just one hit while fanning six hitters to preserve the lead and earn his first win of the season.

The Warriors offense only came up with three hits in the game, but they came at opportune times after earning 10 free passes. Brudi and Justin Kalusa finished with two RBI each while Dunnichay and Ken Jarrett scored two runs apiece.

Indiana Tech’s offense exploded for 20 runs on 17 hits against Berea in the second game of the afternoon.

The Warriors trailed 6-5 after three innings, but posted a six spot in the fourth, a single run in the fifth, and plated seven more runs in the sixth. Tech would also add a run in the seventh to come away with the 20-7 victory.

Eric Wald led the way going 3-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored. Brudi, Adam Crall, Brian Hakes, and Jake Owens also had multi-hit days. Alex McKinstry finished with a double, two runs scored, and three RBI.

Senior pitcher Daniel Puckett earned his first win of the season while Bryan Wachtel and Alex Kimsey combined to allow just one Berea run over the final three frames.

Indiana Tech (2-4) will wrap up the weekend tomorrow with a nine-inning tilt against Berea with the first pitch schedule for 1 p.m.
