Lake Wales, Fla. – The Indiana Tech baseball team had its six game winning streak snapped on Tuesday night, falling to Warner University 7-6 in extra innings.
After rallying for three runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game, the Warriors thought they took the lead on an Ignaitus Mackenzie homerun in the top of the eighth, but the ruling was reversed and called a foul ball.
Tech failed to score in the inning and Warner capitalized in the home half of the frame, loading the bases with no outs before Cody Nevils delivered a walk-off single for the Royals.
Warner (12-18) led 2-0 after four innings, but the Warrior bats came alive in the fifth plating three runs to jump in front. An RBI single by Alex McKinstry got Tech on the board. Two batters later, Justin Kalusa chased the Royals’ starter with another RBI hit bringing around Jacob Dunnichay. Bryan Brudi greeted the new Warner pitcher with another run scoring hit to give the Warriors a 3-2 lead.
The Royals answered though with four runs in the bottom half of the inning on two two-run homeruns to regain the lead.
The score would remain that way until the seventh. McKinstry and Ben Christian led off the inning with back-to-back hits, and McKinstry would come around to score on an error by the Royals. Still trailing by two with the bases loaded and one out, Adam Crall came through with a clutch hit to get Tech within one. Jake Owens followed with a sacrifice fly allowing the tying run to score and force extra innings.
McKinstry went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. Eric Wald, Crall, and Dunnichay also collected two hits apiece. Cam Wilson went four innings giving up two runs on three hits. Alex Kimsey was hit with the loss throwing two innings of relief and giving up one run on three hits.
The Warriors (6-5) are back in action tomorrow at Webber International University. First pitch is at 7 p.m.
