5/13/09 – Cleveland, TN - The Indiana Tech Baseball team bounced back from yesterday’s disappointing loss to Belhaven with a 6-4 win over Spring Arbor University Cougars. The noon matchup featured the Warriors right hander junior Israel Martinez (Cicero, IL / Parkland CC) and the Cougars left hander Andy Paulun. The Cougars struck first scoring in the first inning; taking an early 1-0 lead. The Warriors scored two in the bottom of the second to take the lead and the same batting order in the 4th scored two more to give the Warriors a 4-1 lead. Tech struck again in the bottom of the sixth as junior Lance Hanmer (Greensburg, IN / Parkland CC) drove in seniors Steve Dowding (Toronto, ONT. CAN / Muscatine CC) and Will Richards (Toronto, ONT. CAN / Muscatine CC) with a single up the middle. The Warriors would need the 6-1 lead as the Cougars rallied in the top of the 7th to score three runs and close the gap. Junior Jordan Swift (Lima, OH / Ohio State) came on in relief of Martinez and pitched the final three innings for the save (2). Martinez went six strong innings and improved to 5-1. The Warriors will next face Tennessee Wesleyan tonight at 7:00pm. Winner of tonight’s game will face the loser of the Belhaven/Lee University game tomorrow (5/14).
