| Baseball Goes 3-1 Over the Weekend |
3/8/09 – The Indiana Tech Baseball team swept a pair from Anderson University on Friday evening and Sunday afternoon, they split with the IU-Southeast Grenadiers. Friday was the home opener for the Warriors and on a near perfect evening for baseball in March, the Warriors defeated the Ravens, 13-5 and 8-0. In the first game, senior Will Richards (Toronto, ONT, CAN / Muscatine CC) had a monster game when he went 4-4, with 2 home runs, 3 runs and 6 RBI’s. Senior Steve Dowding (Toronto, ONT, CAN / Muscatine CC) also had a big night with a grand slam. Sophomore Cory Schwartz (Decatur, IN / Belmont) got the win in relief and freshman Daniel Puckett (Anderson, IN / Anderson) stifled the Ravens the final 3.1 innings for the save. In the second game, sophomore Zach Brown (Indianapolis, IN / Shawnee CC) limited the Ravens to four hits on five innings of work. Sunday, the Warriors traveled to New Albany, IN to play IU-Southeast and dropped the first game 8-4 but rebounded to take the second game of the double header, 9-6. In the first game, Dowding went 2-3, with a triple and 3 RBI’s and junior Chad Geier (Coldwater, OH / Sinclair CC) went 1-3 with 2 runs. In the second game, senior pitcher John Paul Akers (Naples, FL / Owens CC) and sophomore pithcer Todd Phillips (Rainsville, AL / Athens St. Univ.) combined to scatter seven hits and allow one earned run. Dowding and Richards went yard again, each recording a home run and Dowding finished the game with 3 hits and 3 RBI’s. Senior Steve Weigle (Naples, FL / Owens CC) went 2-3 with a triple, one run, one stolen base and 2 RBI’s. Beginning on March 14th, the Warriors head down to Florida for one week to play against some of the top teams in the NAIA. |
