Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Indiana Tech basketball team jumped up the rankings to No. 20 in the third regular season installment of the 2012-13 NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, announced by the national office on Tuesday.
The Warriors, who return to the rankings for the first time since holding the No. 25 spot in the preseason poll, are 11-2 on the year and have won six consecutive games. During their six game winning streak, Tech is holding opponents to under 49 points per game and a paltry 36 percent shooting from the floor.
Head Coach Al Grushkin has his team playing inspired defense as Indiana Tech again boasts one of the top defenses in the country, ranking in the top-10 in the country in seven different categories. Among those, the Warriors rank first in three-point field goal percent defense (0.243), third in scoring defense per game (54.07), and fifth in field goal percent defense (0.382).
On the other end, the Warriors are getting production from everywhere. The senior trio of Melvin Brooks (Memphis, TN/Marion Military), Antonio Cannon (Indianapolis, IN/Ancilla), and Jordan Hickman (Bardstown, KY/Vincennes) lead the team in scoring averaging more than 10 points per game. Juniors Jeff Hoskins (Kalamazoo, MI/Indiana Wesleyan) and Antonio Landers (Monroe, LA/John Wood) are chipping in 9.8 points per game.
The Warriors (11-2, 5-1 WHAC) return to action on Saturday, Dec. 15 when they meet Lourdes University (6-4, 3-3 WHAC) in Adrian, Michigan at Adrian College.
