Men’s Basketball Rises to No. 18 in Latest Top 25 Poll

January 8, 2013

For Immediate Release

Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men’s basketball climbed two spots to No. 18 in the fourth regular season edition of the 2012-13 NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, announced by the national office on Tuesday.

The Warriors (14-3, 7-2 WHAC) have won three straight games and nine of their last ten, and now find themselves in a three-way tie at the top of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) standings with Davenport University and Madonna University.

Despite playing undersized and shorthanded, Tech continues to get the job done on the strength of their tremendous defensive play. The Warriors rank in the top-5 in the country in three-point field goal percent defense (0.242), scoring defense per game (51.8), field goal percent defense (0.374), and turnover margin (6.3).

Offensively, the Warriors are getting contributions from everyone and have four players scoring in double figures every night. Leading the way is senior Antonio Cannon (Indianapolis, IN/Ancilla) who has become one of the biggest playmakers in the conference. He has averaged almost 16 ppg since the beginning of December and matched his career-high 20 points twice during that stretch. Cannon is also the WHAC’s leader in field goal percentage (0.512).

Indiana Tech will have the opportunity to make a big statement over the next week facing some tough competition. They begin by welcoming Cornerstone University to the Schaefer Center on Wednesday, Jan. 9 at 7:30 p.m.

The Warriors will follow it up with a trip to Grand Rapids, Michigan to take on No. 8 Davenport and then play host to No. 24 Madonna in two games which could have a huge impact on the conference standings.
