Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men’s basketball team dropped out of the top 25, and were receiving votes in the latest edition of the 2012-13 NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll following an 0-2 week.
The week began with a close 74-69 loss at home to Cornerstone University. It was just the second loss in the Schaefer Center for the Warriors this season. Despite playing shorthanded with a banged up roster, Tech held a late lead, but CU scored the final six points of the game to escape with the win. The Warriors then traveled to Davenport University where they faced off against the No. 8 Panthers in a Top 25 showdown, however DU would come away with the win.
Senior Melvin Brooks (Memphis, TN/Marion Military) had a big week scoring 14 points against Cornerstone and followed it up with a 20 point performance at Davenport, which led all scorers. In addition to his ability to score, Brooks also paces the WHAC in rebounding ripping down 8.3 boards a night.
Brooks, scoring 13.6 points per game, leads a quartet of Warriors who are all averaging more than 10 points per game this season. Antonio Cannon (Indianapolis, IN/Ancilla) is averaging 13.1 points per contest while Jordan Hickman (Bardstown, KY/Vincennes) and Jeff Hoskins (Kalamazoo, MI/Indiana Wesleyan) are averaging 11.0 and 10.1 points respectively.
Tech’s defense still ranks as one of the best in the nation, ranked in the top 10 in three-point field goal percent defense (0.252), scoring defense per game (54.0), turnover margin (6.1), and field goal percent defense (0.390).
The Warriors will look to avoid their first three game skid since the 2009-10 season when they host conference rival No. 19 Madonna University on Wednesday, Jan. 16 in the Schaefer Center beginning at 7:30 p.m.
