Dearborn, Mich. – The Indiana Tech men’s basketball team used a 21-4 run over an eight minute stretch during the second half on Wednesday night to erase a ten point deficit en route to a 61-53 conference victory over the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

The Warrior defense, which still ranks among the nation’s best, limited UMD to just 30 percent shooting in the second half to help fuel the comeback.

The win pushed Tech to 16-6 overall and 9-5 in the conference. The Warriors now trail No. 10 Davenport and No. 17 Madonna, who are tied at the top, by just two games in the standings. Meanwhile Michigan-Dearborn slipped to 6-16 and 4-10 in league play.

Michigan-Dearborn opened up an early lead and managed to stay in front the rest of the half. The Wolves led by as many as eight, but Melvin Brooks (Memphis, TN/Marion Military) scored 10 of his game-high 18 points in the first half to help narrow the gap to just four, 28-24, at the break.

The Wolves had an answer for every Warrior bucket early in the second half and at the 12:50 mark, UMD had pushed its lead to ten, 38-28. However, back-to-back baskets by Jeff Hoskins (Kalamazoo, MI/Indiana Wesleyan) and Brooks sparked a 21-4 run to give Tech the lead. Henry Sidney (Monroe, LA/John Wood) capped off the run with a three-pointer with less than five minutes left on the clock.

Michigan-Dearborn stayed close and trailed by four with thirty seconds remaining, but Antonio Landers (Monroe, LA/John Wood) would go 4-for-4 from the charity stripe to put the game away.

Brooks notched his third consecutive double-double hauling in 14 rebounds to go with his 18 points. Antonio Cannon (Indianapolis, IN/Ancilla) added 17 points and Jordan Hickman (Bardstown, KY/Vincennes) finished with eight points and seven boards.

Up next, the Warriors will welcome Aquinas College to the Schaefer Center on Saturday, Jan. 26. Game time is slated for 3 p.m.
