Fort Wayne, Ind. – Following three consecutive wins, the Indiana Tech men’s basketball team returned to receiving votes in the seventh regular season edition of the 2012-13 NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, announced by the national office of Tuesday.
The Warriors began the week with a come from behind win at the University of Michigan-Dearborn and then defeated Aquinas College at home in a game where they never trailed.
Senior Antonio Cannon (Indianapolis, IN/Ancilla) was earned his second WHAC Player of the Week selection this month after averaging 21.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, including a career-high 25 point effort against Aquinas. Fellow senior Melvin Brooks (Memphis, TN/Marion Military) has also had a big month, putting together a stretch of three straight games with a double-double. The duo leads the team in scoring and rebounding this season. Additionally, Cannon tops the charts in the conference with a 0.504 field goal percentage and Brooks is the WHAC’s leading rebounder hauling in 9.0 per game.
Defense is still the calling card of the Warriors, ranking first in the country in three-point field goal percent defense (0.265), as well as third in both scoring defense per game (55.1) and turnover margin (6.1). Tech also ranks top-10 in overall field goal percent defense, holding opponents to less than 40 percent shooting.
Indiana Tech is playing the first of three games this week tonight at Concordia University beginning at 7:30 p.m. Following that the Warriors will host Siena Heights University on Thursday, Jan. 31 and Lourdes University on Saturday, Feb. 2.
