Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men’s basketball team completed the season sweep of conference rival University of Northwestern Ohio on Saturday with a 67-66 win over the Racers in the Schaefer Center.

Trailing by six in the final minute, Northwestern Ohio scored five quick points to trim the deficit to one and had the ball in the closing seconds with a chance to win, but Jordan Hickman (Bardstown, KY/Vincennes) came away with a huge takeaway to seal the win for Tech.

The Warriors have now won seven of their last eight games to boost their record to 21-7 overall and 14-6 in the WHAC. Meanwhile, the Racers dropped to 16-12 and 11-9 in league play.

With Tech trailing 17-16 midway through the opening period, Melvin Brooks (Memphis, TN/Marion Military) scored seven points during a 13-4 Warrior run to pull ahead 33-20 with 5:30 left in the half.

However, the Racers managed to narrow the gap to eight, 36-28, at halftime.

Brooks continued his hot shooting with a triple to start the second half, and the Warriors would maintain a comfortable margin for most of the period, leading by as much as 17 with 7:36 remaining in the contest.

Northwestern Ohio wouldn’t go away easily and used a 12-2 run to get within seven at the 5:35 mark. Tech had an answer though and buckets by Hickman and Antonio Landers (Monroe, LA/John Wood) kept the lead at double digits.

The Warriors would be held scoreless though over the final 2:31 of the game while the Racers had one last run in them, scoring nine straight points to get within one 67-66.

Following a missed Tech jumper, UNOH raced down the court with 15 ticks left on the clock setting up the terrific defensive play by Hickman to allow the Warriors to walk away with the victory.

Leading the way for the Warriors was Brooks with 20 points followed by Antonio Cannon (Indianapolis, IN/Ancilla) with 15 and Landers with 13. Hickman chipped in nine points and six assists.

Up next the Warriors will go on the road to visit Cornerstone University on Wednesday, Feb. 13. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
