Portsmouth, Ohio – The Warrior men’s golf team finished in sixth place over the weekend at the Shawnee State Invitational held at Portsmouth Elks Country Club in Portsmouth, Ohio. Indiana Tech sat in fifth place after day one with a 313, and despite shooting five shots better on day two, fell back to sixth place with a total score of 621.
Cedarville University captured the top spot with a two-round total of 596 and was followed by Capital University and Shawnee State University with a 608 and 609 respectively.
Senior Mark Beneke (Ft. Wayne, IN/Bishop Dwenger) and freshman Tom Kocks (Ft. Wayne, IN/Homestead) paced the Warriors with matching 152’s, landing them in a tie for 10th place overall. Beneke tied for 6th after his first round 75, but dropped four spots following a second round 77. Kocks carded a 77 through the first 18, and bettered his score on day two by two shots with a 75.
Fellow senior Nick Quick (Portage, IN/Portage) tied for 20th after shooting a 156. Quick shot an 81 on day one, but took six strokes off his score on day two with a 75.
Indiana Tech returns to action on March 26-27 when they host a tournament at The Hill Course in French Lick, Indiana.
