French Lick, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men’s golf team took home 6th place out of the 14 team field at the Thrill at the Hill on Tuesday, held at the legendary Donald Ross Course in French Lick, Indiana.
The Warriors had a team score of 637 (318-319), 27 shots back of the winner Illinois Wesleyan University (610). Illinois Wesleyan finished 11 shots in front of second place Marian University (621) and 14 better than third place Indiana Wesleyan University (624).
Leading the way for Indiana Tech was senior Mark Beneke (Ft. Wayne, IN/Bishop Dwenger), who fired back-to-back rounds of 77 to land in a tie for ninth place overall. Freshman Tom Kocks (Ft. Wayne, IN/Homestead) followed, turning in a two-round total of 159 (79-80) to finish in a tie for 27th.
Junior Ryne Gurney (Ft. Wayne, IN/Bishop Luers) was close behind after carding a 79 on day two, three shots better than his first round score, to finish in a tie for 38th with a total score of 161. Senior Nick Quick (Portage, IN/Portage) tied for 43rd, two strokes behind Gurney with a 163 total (80-83).
The Warriors are off until April 9-10 when they travel to Nicholasville, Kentucky for the Asbury University Spring Invitational at Connemara Golf Course.
