Bloomington, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men’s golf team opened its 2012 season on Thursday afternoon with a fifth place finish at the Battle in Bloomington hosted by Indiana University East at the Bloomington Golf Course.
The match was very tight as the top five teams were separated by just nine shots.
The Warriors posted a team score of 313, while Vincennes University won the tournament with a 304. Mount Vernon Nazarene University followed with a 308, and Brescia University and Indiana East tied with a 310.
Leading the way for Tech was sophomore Nate Kolmerten (New Haven, Ind./New Haven), who fired a career-low round 76 to finish in a tie for seventh place overall. Freshman Ethan Galloway (French Lick, Ind./Springs Valley) had an impressive collegiate debut, finishing just outside the top-10 in 12th place with a seven-over 78.
Sophomore Tom Kocks (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Homestead) was close behind shooting a 79 to finish in 14th, and senior Jamaal Jones (Detroit, Mich./Renaissance) and freshman Andrew Taylor (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon) both carded an 80 to land in 20th place.
The Warriors are back in action on Sept. 8 in Adrian, Michigan for the first WHAC Jamboree of the year. The event will be hosted by Siena Heights University at Lenawee Country Club.
