Caledonia, Mich. – The Indiana Tech men’s golf team sat in a tie for third place after a first round 315, and despite shooting three shots better on day two, dropped to fifth place in the final standings at the WHAC Jamboree #2 hosted by Concordia University and Davenport University on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The Warriors finished the tournament with a team score of 627, 15 shots behind winner Davenport. Madonna University and the University of Northwestern Ohio tied for second with matching scores of 621.
Sophomore Tom Kocks (Ft. Wayne, IN/Homestead) played an outstanding opening round, shooting a one-over 73 to tie for the overall lead after 18-holes. He carded a second round 77 to shoot a 150 two-day total, however UNOH’s Keith Long fired a 72 to surpass Kocks on the leaderboard and take home medalist honors by one stroke.
Freshman Tyler Willette (Collingwood, Ontario/Collingwood Collegiate) shot a season-low 75 during round two to climb up to 11th place, his best finish this season, while sophomore Nate Kolmerten (New Haven, IN/New Haven) turned in rounds of 82 and 76 for an 18th place finish.
Rounding out the Warriors were Ethan Galloway (French Lick, IN/Springs Valley) in 28th with a 163, Andrew Taylor (Napoleon, OH/Napoleon) in 34th with a 167, and Zach Wetzel (Decatur, IN/Bellmont) in 44th with a 174.
The Warriors return to action on Sept. 17-18 at the Purdue University Calumet Invitational in Hammond, Indiana at Lost Marsh Golf Club.
