Hammond, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men’s golf team finished in third place out of the nine team field at the inaugural Mike Lalaeff Memorial Invite hosted by Purdue University Calumet at Lost Marsh Golf Course on Sept. 17-18.
The Warriors stood just four shots back of the leader after an opening round 320 but were not able to overcome the deficit following a final round 334, closing out the tournament with a total score of 654.
Owens Community College took the top spot with a two-day total of 628 and Calumet College of St. Joseph landed in second with a 649.
Leading the way for the Warriors was sophomore Nate Kolmerten (New Haven, IN/New Haven). Kolmerten shot back-to-back rounds of 78 to finish t-3rd overall, the best finish of his collegiate career.
Classmate Tom Kocks (Ft. Wayne, IN/Homestead) was close behind in 7th place. Kocks fired an 80 to begin the tournament and followed it up with another 80 to secure his third top-10 finish of the season.
The freshmen trio of Tyler Willette (Collingwood, Ontario/Collingwood Collegiate), Ethan Galloway (French Lick, IN/Springs Valley), and Andrew Taylor (Napoleon, OH/Napoleon) rounded out the scoring for Tech. Willette came in t-25th, turning in rounds of 82/88. Galloway was right behind in 27th with scores of 83/88, and Taylor carded rounds of 80/93 to finish t-29th.
The Warriors return to action on Oct. 1-2 for the Saint Francis Invitational. The first round will be held at Cherry Hill Golf Club and the second at Autumn Ridge Golf Club in Fort Wayne.
