Fort Wayne, Ind. – The Indiana Tech men’s golf team finished fifth at the USF Cougar Fall Invitational on Tuesday. The Warriors opened with a 317 on Monday at Cherry Hill Golf Club and shot four strokes better in the final round at Autumn Ridge Golf Club to finish with a score of 630.
Bethel College took a huge lead following a first round 286 and held on in the final round to secure the win with a 591. Holy Cross College finished second with a 609 and host University of Saint Francis rounded out the top-3 with a 615.
Sophomores Tom Kocks (Ft. Wayne, IN/Homestead) and Nate Kolmerten (New Haven, IN/New Haven) led the way for the Warriors finishing tied for 21st. Kocks carded rounds of 79-78 while Kolmerten went 77-80. Kolmerten’s 77 was one stroke off his season-low round of 76.
Close behind were senior Jamaal Jones (Detroit, MI/Renaissance) and freshman Tyler Willette (Collingwood, Ont./Collingwood Collegiate), who finished with matching scores of 159. After a first round 83, Jones turned in his best round of the season on Tuesday with a 76.
The Warriors are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 6 in Canton, Michigan for the third WHAC Jamboree hosted by Madonna University at Fellows Creek Golf Club.
