East Moline, Ill. – The Indiana Tech men’s golf team finished in seventh place out of the 10 teams competing at the Ashford Invitational held at Short Hills Country Club on Monday and Tuesday.
The Warriors shot an opening round 318 on Monday and backed it up with rounds of 307 and 312 on Tuesday for a three-round total of 937.
Host Ashford University claimed the top spot with an 877 followed by St. Ambrose University with a 910 and Grand Rapids Community College with a 916.
Freshman Tyler Willette (Collingwood, Ont./Collingwood Collegiate) was Tech’s top finished, placing 13th with a 228. Willette began the tournament with a 79, but came back with a season-low 73 in the second round and a 76 over the final 18-holes. Sophomore Tom Kocks (Ft. Wayne, IN/Homestead) was right behind, finishing in 14th place. Kocks turned in strong rounds of 77-76-77.
Ethan Galloway (French Lick, IN/Springs Valley) and Zach Wetzel (Decatur, IN/Bellmont) followed for the Warriors. Galloway shot a 238 (80-79-79) to place 29th while Wetzel finished with a 242 (83-79-80) to land in 35th. Jamaal Jones (Detroit, MI/Renaissance) finished in 46th with a 252 (82-84-86).
The Warriors will wrap up their Fall schedule on Friday, Oct. 12 at the fourth and final WHAC Jamboree hosted by Lourdes University at Sylvania Country Club.
