RESULTS | HAMMOND, Ind. –The Indiana Tech men’s golf team improved by 11 strokes in the final round of the Mike Lalaeff Memorial Invitational, firing a 319 to move up three spots and finish tied for sixth (330-319=649) on Tuesday at the Lost Marsh Golf Course.
Tom Kocks led the charge for the Warriors as he posted a final round 78, five strokes better than his first round of 83, placing 24th with a 161, along with Zach Wetzel who carded an 81 on Tuesday. Tyler Willette also improved multiple strokes as he finished with a 36-hole total of 163 (83-80), one stroke better than teammate Nate Kolmerten who shaved four strokes on the second day, finishing with a 164 (84-80). Ethan Galloway concluded the scoring for the Warriors with a final round 86 and a 171 (85-86) for the tournament.
The Orange and Black had a second team in the field and they finished 16th with a 768 (388-380). Brandon Bailey led the way with a final round 81 and a 168 (87-81) over two days. Tyler Turnwald carded back-to-back 89’s for a 178 and Dan Novitski finished with a 193 (96-97). Rounding out play for Tech was Nick Brogdon who shot a 229 (116-113).
Saint Xavier (Ill.) won the event with a 601 (304-297) including a final round 297, the only team to break 300. They were led by individual medalist Kirby Brown who carded a 147 (76-71). Carthage was second with a 621 (318-303) while Owens Community College (316-305=322), Lewis (321-314=635) and Missouri Valley (325-313=638) round out the top five.
The Warriors return to the links on Thursday, Sept. 19 when they travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. to participate in the WHAC Jamboree No. 2 at The Highlands Golf Course. Teams are scheduled to tee off at 11 a.m.
