West Lafayette, IN -- This past Saturday, Indiana Tech Men’s Lacrosse team traveled to West Lafayette to face off against Purdue and Minnesota State-Mankato. The first regular season game of Indiana Tech Men’s Lacrosse history was a victory.
The Warriors beat the Boilermakers 7-5 in a close contested battle. Brent Nichter (Ft. Wayne, IN/Bishop Luers HS) scored the first goal in the history of the lacrosse program. Craig Schaepkens (Davison, MI/Davison HS) added 2, Samora Ponn (Ft. Wayne, IN/Concord HS) added 1, and Matt Fedcyk (Fergus, ON/Centre Wellington HS) had a hat trick. Jordan Steptoe (Ellicott City, MD/River Hill HS) played stellar between the pipes and finished with 17 saves. Ted Hoffman (Ft. Wayne, IN/Bishop Luers HS) led the Warriors in groundballs. Zac Peterson (Plymouth, MN/Wayzata HS), Bryce Packard (Middleton, WI/Middleton HS) and Josh Archbold (Ft. Wayne, IN/Bishop Luers HS) had great efforts on the defensive midfield.
In the second game, the Warriors were defeated 10-4 by Minnesota State-Mankato. The Warriors tied the game up in the 2nd quarter 1-1, but the goal by Nick Lichtsin (Ft. Wayne, IN) was nullified due to an illegal stick violation. This resulted in a three minute locked in penalty that took the Warriors out of their rhythm, and they were not able to rebound until it was too late. When attempting to stage their comeback, the Warriors struggled with Minnesota State-Mankato’s pressure defense. There were some bright spots as Steptoe played another amazing game with 17 saves, Lichtsin finished with 1 goal, and had many good attempts on the offensive end while also playing solid defense. Tony Cremeens (St. Charles, MO/Hazelwood HS) played solid on Attack and Midfield finishing with two goals, and other very solid attempts on the cage. Nichter tacked on 1 goal as well.
The Warriors will be back in action at Eastern Michigan in Ypsilanti, MI @ 7 p.m. this Wednesday, March 10.
